GHR*P-2 is a synthetic ghrelin analogue.
Like ghrelin, it stimulates release of endogenous growth hormo from somatotropes in the anterior pituitary; also like ghrelin, it is synergistic with endogenous growth hormo releasing-hormo (GHRH) as well as with synthetic GHRH analogues such as Sermorelin or GRF(1-29). Whereas GHR-2 and other ghrelin analogues increase the number of somatotropes involved in the GH pulse by inhibiting somatostatin, GHRH increases the pulse amplitude per pituitary cell or somatotrope by other means.Unlike ghrelin, GHR-2 is not lipogenic meaning it does not induce fat storage. While ghrelin has a very important role in hunger, GHR-2 as an analog of ghrelin does not increase appetite significantly.
GHR-2 is synergistic with GHRH due to secondary actions on hypothalamic neurons. The quantity of GH released by a living mammal to which GHR-2 and GHR are administered exceeds the combined release of each compound when measured when taken alone.
The Utility of GHR-2 as a Grow Hormo Secretagogue
GHR*P-2 has been studied extensively for its utility as a grow hormo secretagogue (GHS). Scientists have discovered that the Growth Hormo Releasing Peptide-2 increases the natural production of grow hormo (GH). In the early 90's, one of the most famous studies was performed and later published in 1997 in the Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism. This study further exemplifies the theory that growth horm releasing peptides (including Ipamorelin and GHR-6) could help hormo deficient adults and children. Ever since these major scientific studies, GHR-2 has been widely produced. With other scientific labs confirming the results from their studies, GHR-2 can in fact work for those who lack the ability to make adequate human grow hormo. Results however will differ with the use of GHR-2 because species respond differently based on the pituitary somatotrophs and the differences in the subtypes of GHR receptors. In the physiologic system, the actions are blocked by GRF receptors antagonist which acts through a different receptor to that employed by earlier GHRs.
GHR-P-2 Administration
In humans, a dose of 1mcg/kg (100mg for a 100kg male) of GHR-2 when combined with a GHRH of equal dosage creates a three-hour pulse of GH that is double the amplitude of an 8 IU synthetic (e.coli derived) growth hormo dose. IV, intramuscular and subcutaneous routes lead to different onset times but roughly similar peaks and declines.
